Earlier this year, we announced that Northwest Resource would soon be adopting a new name. Now, we are excited to reveal that on Monday, June 3rd, we will open our doors as Trailhead Credit Union.
With the guidance and assistance of your elected Board of Directors, we selected the new name to better distinguish ourselves in the marketplace. It’s also much easier to remember and say than “Northwest Resource Federal Credit Union”!
Portland is treasured for its many urban and natural trails, so we feel the name “Trailhead” will resonate with our current and future members as we help them find their individual paths to financial success.
While our name is changing, our 78-year commitment to serving our members is not. Please be assured, the credit union is not being merged into another institution. Your credit union’s dedicated staff, friendly service, and our commitment to you will remain the same.
We are very excited about the transition to our new name and brand and look forward to introducing Trailhead to the community in June. During this transition and beyond, please do not hesitate to call the credit union should you have any questions or concerns.
Questions and Answers about the name change
Why are you changing the name of the credit union?
As the financial marketplace is becoming more competitive, we wanted a name that is easy to say, easy to remember, and stands out. As one of 10 other credit unions in Oregon with “Northwest” in the name, understandably, we were often confused with other credit unions. Even our own members were often unsure about what to call us because our name is so long!
How did you come up with the name Trailhead?
We spent many months working with a team of board members and management under the guidance of an experienced branding firm. We chose the name Trailhead because it resonates with current and potential members — our fellow Portlanders who love the outdoors with its urban and natural trails. The name Trailhead fits with our credit union because we help members define their individual paths to financial success.
When will the name change take effect?
We will open our doors as Trailhead on Monday, June 3.
Is the name change the result of a merger or acquisition?
No. The name change is not the result of a merger or acquisition of any kind.
Will the credit union still serve current or retired NW Natural employees and their families?
Yes. We will always maintain a close relationship with NW Natural and serving the financial needs of past and present NW Natural employees and their families will remain a strong focus of this credit union.
Will this name change be expensive?
We have been planning for this change for over a year, allowing us to use up existing supplies and postpone various projects in order to minimize costs. The plan does, however, involve changes to all signage and forms. We consider this cost a sound investment in future growth.
Will ownership of the credit union remain the same?
Yes. The ownership of the credit union will remain 100% owned by you, the members.
How will fees, loan rates, and deposit rates be impacted by the name change?
Neither your rates nor fees will be affected by these changes. We will continue to monitor our rates and fees like we always have. Rates and fees do fluctuate, but they are adjusted in response to market conditions.
Will my account numbers change?
No, your account number(s) will stay the same.
Will I need a new debit, credit, or ATM card?
Your currents cards will continue to work as usual. When your current card expires, you will receive a new card with the new name and logo.
Will I need new checks?
You may continue to use up your existing checks. Checks clear your account using the routing number (which will remain the same) that is located on the bottom of your checks. Checks featuring Northwest Resource will continue to be accepted and clear just fine.
Will my direct deposit need to be changed or updated?
No. Direct deposits are sent to the credit union using our routing number (which will remain the same) and your account number (which will remain the same) so there’s nothing to change or update.
Will my statement change?
Yes. The statements will be redesigned to feature visual changes that reflect the look and feel of our new Trailhead brand and to improve readability.
Will the website change?
Yes. The new URL for our website will be www.trailheadcu.org beginning June 3. And the site will be updated to reflect the new name and brand. However, to assist with this transition, if you continue to type www.nrfcu.org, you’ll be redirected to the new site.
